I am an experienced Consultant General / Colorectal Surgeon with a specialist interest in laparoscopic surgery.
I have been a consultant at Lister Hospital since 2011 where my interests and expertise include all types of open and laparoscopic abdominal wall hernia repairs (including inguinal, umbilical, epigastric, incisional and femoral hernias), laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstones, proctology (including haemorrhoids, fistulas, fissure, pilonidal sinus), laparoscopic and open surgery for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease and the investigation of abdominal symptoms such as abdominal pain, change in bowel habit, anorectal symptoms and groin pain. I have a particular interest in colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy and I am an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist.
Up to March 2025 the numbers of procedures I have performed as a consultant include:
Laparoscopic or robotic cholecystectomy – 1227 (99.5% completed laparoscopically)
Total number of abdominal wall hernia repairs – 2193
Inguinal hernia repair – 1482 (both open and laparoscopic)
Umbilical hernia repair – 425

Major colorectal resections 546 (including 345 for cancer)

I have previously held the roles of clinical director for general surgery and colorectal cancer MDT lead at Lister Hospital. I have been the local lead investigator on a number of national trials and have published over 30 papers. I was awarded a MD after two years of research.
Patient safety is my priority and I always ensure patients are fully informed of all treatment options and participate in shared decision making to achieve the best possible outcomes.
