Miss Christine Gan qualified from Oxford University in 2008, before completing Urology specialty training in the North-West London deanery. She undertook two years of clinical research at Guy’s Hospital, London, focusing on non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. She was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Lister Hospital in 2019.
Miss Gan has a specialist interest in the assessment and management of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men, particularly those caused by an enlarged prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). She regularly treats men with urinary symptoms such as poor urinary flow, urgency, incontinence, nighttime urination, and urinary retention. She established and manages a one-stop benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) clinic at the Lister Hospital, providing streamlined assessment and treatment planning for men with urinary symptoms.
Miss Gan offers a full range of modern surgical treatments for enlarged prostates. She has extensive experience in holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), an advanced surgical technique suitable for large prostates, and has a particular interest in day-case HoLEP pathways, enabling selected patients to undergo effective surgical treatment with rapid recovery and same-day discharge. She also offers Aquablation therapy, a robotically guided waterjet ablation technique, and Rezum water vapour therapy for suitable patients, particularly those seeking minimally invasive options while preserving sexual function.
Having experience over a wide range of surgical techniques allows Miss Gan to provide a tailored treatment plan according to individual patient priorities, including recovery time, avoidance of long-term catheterisation, and preservation of sexual function.
Aside from BPH, Miss Gan also developed and currently runs a transurethral laser ablation (TULA) service for outpatient management of small bladder tumours.
Miss Gan has published widely and has presented at national and international Urology conferences. She is also active in training Urology residents and providing teaching sessions for GPs.
